Soulwinners Needed
By David J. Stewart | March 2009
Luke 10:2, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few:
pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”The Lord has a burden for lost souls. In Luke 10:2 Jesus sent out the seventy soulwinners in pairs. As He did so He made the statement in Luke 10:2, "The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Jesus saw the potential to win souls, but there just weren't enough soulwinners available.
Things haven't changed much in 2,000 years. There is still a woeful lack of soulwinners in the world today. The average church has no soulwinning program whatsoever. I recently visited three different Baptist churches and not one of them had a weekly soulwinning time. No Fisherman's Club. No ladies soulwinning time. No men's fellowship time to go soulwinning. I can tell if a church is dead right away just by checking whether or not they have a regular soulwinning program. Most churches are spiritually dried up, because the pastor doesn't walk with God, and his flock is malnourished and underfed.
Oh, that preachers would preach once again! Oh, that pastors would walk with God and teach their congregation to walk with God. Oh, that men would go soulwinning. Oh, that the ladies in the church would go soulwinning. Oh, that the teenagers in the church would go soulwinning to other teenagers. If we don't witness the Gospel to the lost, then who will? If not us, who? If not now, when? If not here, where?
In Matthew 9:37, Jesus said “the harvest truly is plenteous,” meaning that millions of people are ready to be saved, but they need a soulwinner to present the Gospel to them. Everywhere we go nowadays, people are confused about God and religion. They are bombarded with all sorts of heresies and lies from the Devil. People need the truth of God's Word. Matthew 9:37 states, "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few." Oh, that Christians were as burdened about lost souls as is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Notice that our Lord said in Luke 10:2b, "Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest." We ought to continually pray for God to work in the hearts of Christians, to cause them to have a burden for lost souls. The average believer these days is more interested in the latest music CD by their favorite artist. It is apostasy! America's churches are filled with Praise Teams, Worship Services and all sorts of entertainment, while the world is going to Hell. Where are the soul-winners?
There's a popular story being circulating in America's workplace. It applies to the Lord's work as much as to a secular job. It's about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
Here is a challenging quote from the mighty man of God, Dr. Lee Roberson, concerning eternal punishment and having a burden for lost souls . . .
“Somebody says, 'The thought of Hell is so horrible.' Well, my friend, so is cancer, so is tuberculosis, so is the grave. Someone said, 'I believe sin ought to be punished, but not for eternity.' That's your view, not God's.
Again another says, 'I don't believe in the wrath of God.' Then you don't believe your Bible. The Bible says the wrath of God abideth on the one who doesn't believe in Jesus Christ. He is lost forever.
Now, these things come to us out of the Word of God. The teaching of eternal punishment should give us a hatred for sin. We ought to hate sin. The reason we have changed so much in this day in all of our churches is that we are not hearing much on this subject. Therefore, we endorse sin. We engage in sin. We camouflage the sin in our lives and allow things to go by, instead of hating sin as God wants us to hate sin . . .
The teaching of eternal punishment should give us a passion for the souls of men.”
The great need of our time is soulwinning Christians!!! So many believers are sitting at ease on Zion, resting upon their blessed assurance, doing nothing for God. Instead of Standing On The Promises, they are Sitting On The Premises. There are no qualifications for soulwinning. Every born-again believer is commanded by the Lord to be a soulwinner (Proverb 11:30; Daniel 12:3; Matthew 28:19,20; Luke 8:15; John 15:1-7; Romans 10:15; 2nd Corinthians 5:11). It is a sin not to go soul winning. Oh, that Christians would have a burden for lost souls and confront them about their eternal destiny. The world is not going to come to us, we must go to them with the Gospel. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, “GO YE...”
